Greener Homes for Grayson Crest

Grayson Crest

Greener, warmer living in Leeds

Grayson Crest multi storey flats in Burley has staged a grand open day with tenants and residents to showcase its new decent homes and environmental improvements.

Leeds City Council-owned ALMO West North West Homes Leeds and its partner Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) introduced residents to a new recycling centre and informed them about saving energy in their homes as part of the celebration.

The work cost over £1million from capital funds and government money. Improvements included state-of-the-art Rockwool cladding on exterior walls with a rendered finish, aimed at eradicating damp and insulating the building.

Works were also carried out replacing and modernising residents’ kitchens and bathrooms in accordance to the government’s decent home standard.  “I’ve never had a shower before and now I have a power shower it's wonderful" beamed Mr Ballard, a very satisfied Grayson Crest resident.

In total 37 new kitchens and 57 new bathrooms were refurbished, with isolated re-wiring to some properties.  Customers were given a number of choices to make when designing their kitchens to suit their homes.

During the summer months it will be difficult to assess the effectiveness of the thermo insulation around the walls of the building, but as autumn and winter approach residents should feel a massive difference in the warmth of their properties.  Energy use will be minimised and residents will start saving money on their fuel bills as a result.

To mark the open day event the sponsors FHM staged a ‘ribbon cutting’ at the new recycling centre.

Sean Corcoran, Construction Manager from FHM said: “We are delighted that residents in Leeds have been able to mark the completion of this scheme, which means better and more affordable housing for them because of the efficient nature of the building.“It’s great that we have been able to come together to celebrate what promises to be the start of a bright future for the scheme.”
