Are you worried about losing your Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit if you go back to work?

Better off in work

Most people will be better off in work. You may be able to keep your Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit when you are working and you may be able to claim extra help through Working Tax Credit.

Did you know?

  • You may be able to get  an extra 4 weeks of extended Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit Payments.
  • Parents may get help to cover child care costs while working.
  • You may also be eligible for the £40 per week Return to Work or In Work Credit
  • A one off lump sum payment of up to £250 may also be available through the job grant which will not affect any of your other benefits
  • Work trials are available with most employers

If you receive partial Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit due to your income but are still struggling to make ends meet you may be entitled to extra discretionary help with your rent and council tax
