Sheltered Housing

Sheltered Housing is usually provided for people who are over the age of 60 and are vulnerable because they suffer from ill health or are frail or elderly. We currently have over 50 sheltered schemes containing approximately  2,000 homes, ranging from purpose-built accommodation, studio flats and bungalows to multi-storey flats. Schemes vary but standard features include:Ireland Wood Sheltered Scheme

  • Self-contained flats
  • Communal facilities
  • Security and safety features
  • A Scheme Manager
  • 24-hour emergency assistance

What are the benefits of Sheltered Housing?

The benefits of living in Sheltered Housing are many and include:

  • Round-the-clock call system that goes straight to a support team
  • Your own front door, bathroom and kitchen; and a choice of one or two bedrooms
  • Remaining part of the community
  • Affordable rent
  • Trained staff on hand to help
  • The company of others when you want it, and privacy when you don't
  • Activities and events if that's your scene
  • Local shops and facilities with good public transport

Most of our schemes have a communal area where residents and tenants living nearby can gather for social events such as coffee mornings and a range of activities. Each Unit of our sheltered accommodation is fitted with a communal laundry room with at least one washing machine and tumble drier and a communal kitchen for use by the residents. Some schemes have a ‘guest room’ which can be rented out for a small fee  to family members who don’t live locally.

All of our sheltered accommodation is fitted with an ‘alarm’ connected through to Care Ring, a 24-hour, 7 days a week emergency service.

The schemes are designed so you can keep your independence, with a range of services aimed at giving you control over your life.

Available Sheltered Housing is advertised on the Leeds Homes Website (www.leedshomes.org.uk ).   For further information please call 0800 915 1113.
